The Hottest State

December 25, 2008 1 comment

Last 3 weeks ago, I went to a known bookstore here in the PI, to buy a book using my sodexho gift certificate worth Php 500.oo. I was thinking to get 2 books which will just cost me, well for the exact amount ofmy gc.

I stumbled upon this book who was written by no other than Ethan Hawke, and I was too curious to read it, knowing that Ethan Hawke was artistic enough to write something. I thought maybe I’ll give it a shot eventhough it’ll cost me a few more bucks than what my gc is worth.

It was pretty much a love story.

It’s a typical guy who has a dysfunctional family, living his so called life, dated a few whom he just spent sex with until meeting a girl whom he would fell inlove with then losing her without really knowing what he did wrong.

I got hooked into the book because somehow all of us could relate to it, especially me. I had experienced what I can say the same fate as the major character in the book had experienced. So it made me watch the movie version of it.

First off, the movie was also great although there were minor things that somehow made me say that it could have been better if they just spent money for it to be much better.

The part where William is supposed to shoot a movie, in the book it was Europe, but in the movie it was just Mexico. I think if they stick to the original place where it all began, it’ll give emphasis maybe on how things went wrong, I don’t know or maybe it’s just me, relied too much that the story from the book will be really shown on it’s movie version.

And the last part, was also changed from the book to the movie. The last part in the movie was a bit disappointing for me, it was too dreamy without knowing what’s really the score or what really happened. It’s like saying “so that’s it huh?”.

If you have seen the movie, I guarantee you that you’ll enjoy the book much better.

I give the movie 4 stars since they didn’t really give much of a budget to it. lol. And the book, a perfect 5 stars for the way the author give emphasis on how each character makes a reader getting hooked or relate to the whole drama.

So that’s it for now.

Happy Holidays Everyone.

Doughnut drive while having sex

Sex Drive

Sex Drive

I  happened to see this movie while looking for Sex and Breakfast the other day. I tried watching it while waiting for Reality Bites to completely buffer. (I mostly watch movies online. Thanks to online streaming!).

The movie was hilarious, it’s like watching American Pie with a twist, it’s also like watching Girl Next Door due to its sexual content.

The story revolves around an 18 year old virgin, who goes on a road trip to meet and hook up with a girl he met online. The movie was actually based on the novel All the way by Andy Behrens. The movie was directed by Sean Anders.

By the way, the pop punk band Fall Out Boy made a cameo in the film due to Seth Green (one of the actor and executive producer of the film, whose currently close friends with the band.)

It revolves around, friendship, losing virginity, love and hospitality.

A must see movie. I give it 5 stars.

The movie was released October 17th 2008. I wonder why it wasn’t advertised here in the Philippines?

It’s like coffee and cigarettes

Well, first off, enough of korean movies, lol. I haven’t watched a senseful movie since after the one that I reviewed here. So I’ll back up and review a not so old movie that I’ve seen early this year.

sex and breakfast

sex and breakfast

It’s an indie film starred  by no other than the child wonder Macaulay Culkin, Eliza Dushku (of bring it on, tru calling), Mexican Actor Kuno Becker (of Goal 1,2,3) and Alexis Dziena.  The story revolves around two couples, struggling to make a spark on their relationship. Then came up a decision were they’d enter an anonymous group sex experiment to freshen their relationship, but little did they know, one of them would make it even worse.

What made me impress here is how, Mac, made a standout performance, because you would really say that he made a big improvement on his acting, he matured alot.

There were too many talking/conversation in the movie that made senseful things, but didn’t really bore me since it made the story more focus on the plot which is: SEX, LOVE and COMMUNICATION.

I’ve much appreciated this one than Before Sunset really. So, you might want to check it out, because as the movie line goes… ‘There’s more to life than sex and breakfast.’

I give it 5 stars. Check out the film website here.

Fish The Rocker

The Rocker Movie

The Rocker Movie

Rainn Wilson stars as Robert “Fish” Fishman, who was unsuccessful, thrown out drummer from the 80′s band Vesuvius. The story evolves with Fish, living his rock and roll dream ’til he was kicked out from the band he founded to begin with. After 20 years of living in a normal life, throwing away all the hopes he had to be a rock and roll star, his nephew Matt (Josh Gad) asked him to be the drummer of the band A.D.D. (Attention Defficiency Disorder).

The band consist of Curtis Wood (Teddy Geiger), the lead vocals and the guitarist,  Amelia (Emma Stone), backup vocals and bassist, Matt Gadman (Josh Gad), keyboards and backup vocals, all there left was the drummer, since their original drummer got suspended from their school. In order for them to play in their prom, they would need to get a drummer, and so Matt decided to ask his Uncle Fish to join them. And so the story goes…

My first reaction was, whatthe, it’s like Rain is the equivalent to Jack Black of The School Of Rock. The only difference is that the band of Jack Black consists of 10-13 year old grade schoolers, equals to Rainn Wilson’s highschool teenage kids who plays well, and need not to be taught anymore.

Anyway, in terms of the comedy side, this made me laugh, really. But in terms of what’s gonna be the next scene, I pretty much know what’s gonna happen to whatever chaos the antagonist will bring, then would soon be alright again, since it’s like the part where, it should be a happy ending type of thing movie.

In terms of the soundtrack, my brother was actually surprise with how Teddy Geiger’s songs were written and played, well I give it an 8.

For the whole movie it self, it’s not that really bad, if you enjoyed School of Rock, you would also definitely enjoy this one. I give it 4 stars.
