Cory Aquino

“What is important is that we believe in the Almighty and that we try to do whatever we can to help ease some of the sufferings of our people,” “I always tell my children: ‘I don’t know how many good years I still have left, but whatever I can do at this time, I really want to be able to continue not only for the cause of democracy, but also to help in bringing about a better Filipino.”  “For the rest of my life, I will be doing whatever I can to improve things.”

As far as I can remember, I was still young then when I saw some replays on T.V. about Ninoy’s death and about People Power Revolution. I can still remember back then when my mom used to tell me that she wanted to be there when it happened but my Dad didn’t allow her to go.

It was all over the news, prayer vigils, news flash, hearsay, text messages, asking for prayers for Pres. Cory Aquino’s safety and well being. Come August 1st, 3:18 A.M., former president of the Philippines, died of cardiopulmonary arrest after complications of colon cancer. She died at the age of 76.

I told my mom about this, and she said, if she only had a choice of being able to go here, (she now resides in the U.S.A), she would attend Cory’s funeral and wake. I told her to just pray for her soul.

Everytime I pass the streets, see yellow ribbons, and tarpaulins of her, I have this rush of sad emotions, and makes me want to cry. I may not be a close family or a friend, but I understand why people of the Philippines mourned so much.

We lost a  mother, a leader, and a friend all in one.

She’s the main reason why we have our freedom now. She’s the reason why we still have our democracy.

Yesterday, August 5th, Filipinos, poured their heart out by joining the Aquino family for a funeral procession which lasted for almost eight hours.

Cory Aquino, will not be forgotten by Filipinos, my dad even said that she should have a monument or given a holiday named after her for what she did for the country.

Condolences to the Aquino Family. Safe trip Tita Cory. You will be forever missed.

The Speed Of Dell March 21, 2009

Just a few days ago, I posted a blog thanking all the people that helped me getting a promotion for level 2 at Dell. I was thankful thinking that whenever you worked for something hard, for sure it’s really gonna be rewarded by Dell.

As what their slogan says : “There’s no way to go but up” was really a living testament for me.

I have been with Dell, and up to now still with Dell for almost 11 months, and I am proud to say that in less than 1 year i was able to move 1 level up.

Until yesterday (March 20th 2009). I was itching to go to the townhall for a meeting which was not really explain to us what was it about.

Before the townhall meeting, my manager, gathered us and told us what’s gonna be in store for the said meeting.

We were all surprise, and maybe, not believing it yet, hoping that it’s just a speculation.

Until Ganesh, attested to it.

I was really speechless, maybe because of shock thinking that this couldn’t be happening. Most of the people was also feeling the sudden rush of sadness and betrayal.

We were’nt advised about this, nor was not given any warning at all. What hurts the most is that, we made sure that when they mentioned that due to economic crisis, our pay increase will be delayed, we accepted it whole heartedly since, being with Dell is already an enough assurance for us that we would still be able to keep our high end  job which will not just be branded as a call center job.

When they said that due to economic crisis, the supposedly delayed pay increase will not be given anymore, we were hurt but still accepted it, since we know that global economy is really suffering bigtime.

What isn’t right is the fact that their reason as to our center is being sold is due to falling sales, that I will contest. I don’t need to elaborate because any dell employee can attest to this.

They even can not give us the straight answer why did they sell us to Teleperfomance, nor not even brave enough to basically say that they sold us.

For us dell pasay employees who worked hard to keep our jobs and get a decent explanation why this happened, it’s not right to make all of us dumbs or stupid because you think by just giving us a fallback right away, it’s already an AOK situation.

It’s not a win-win situation. You didn’t give us any choice, but to resign from dell or to resign from dell.

You didn’t even give us any decency to at least make sure that we get a good fallback job rather than to be with a notorious company whom their employees keeps on complaining that their pay are not being released on time and benefits are not being implemented.

Dell should’ve at least notified us.

It’s really tragic.

As what our callers always say, “DELL made the right choice hiring you guys from the Philippines because you’re great with what you do, speaks english really well and makes sure that the problem is taken care of and fixed.”

The reason behind that?

It’s because we are a DELL Certified Resolution Specialist, whom you guys mold.

And sad to say, with what had happened, most of us, doesn’t have the strength to continue the excellence that we always provide to our customers.

Speed of Dell, was really fast. As what they say, Well at Dell, it actually became Hell at Dell.

Francis Magalona

When I was a kid, I can still remember, I used to do the running dance whenever my mom would play the cassette tape that Francis M. gave my dad. It was his very first album Yo!. I would also rap in sync whenever “Mga Kababayan” is playing.

Come highschool, every time we would  be having a roadtrip, my cousin and I would play his cassette tape that has “Mga Praning” and Kaleidoscope world in it. We would also argue back then, I would always insist that Francis M is not a total hip hop,  since he does have a band called The Hardware Syndrome.

When we would always visit T.A.P.E. or Bulaga, I would bump into Francis, and would tap me on my shoulders with a smile on his face, as a nervous shy person as I am, I would just smiled back.

When I found out that he had leukemia, I was praying along with the people who’s hoping for his recovery. I was pretty happy since I am seeing progress with his therapy.

Come March 6, I wasn’t able to report to work due to acute gastritis attack. My dad and I came from the hospital, went home to eat lunch, while watching tv, a flash news came in GMA-7, Vic announced that Francis Magalona died. Organ failure due to leukemia. He was 44.

It took me just now to have the courage to write something about him. Maybe I was still  in shock or denial that my childhood music Hero is dead now.

I was also thinking that this is better than knowing that he suffered more being alive.

He would never be forgotten. The songs will always leave a mark in our hearts.

Mabuhay ka Kuya Francis! You’re worth remembering. You made Pinoy’s proud.

Safe trip. I know you’re happy and smiling while walking thru God’s path.

Last 3 weeks ago, I went to a known bookstore here in the PI, to buy a book using my sodexho gift certificate worth Php 500.oo. I was thinking to get 2 books which will just cost me, well for the exact amount ofmy gc.

I stumbled upon this book who was written by no other than Ethan Hawke, and I was too curious to read it, knowing that Ethan Hawke was artistic enough to write something. I thought maybe I’ll give it a shot eventhough it’ll cost me a few more bucks than what my gc is worth.

It was pretty much a love story.

It’s a typical guy who has a dysfunctional family, living his so called life, dated a few whom he just spent sex with until meeting a girl whom he would fell inlove with then losing her without really knowing what he did wrong.

I got hooked into the book because somehow all of us could relate to it, especially me. I had experienced what I can say the same fate as the major character in the book had experienced. So it made me watch the movie version of it.

First off, the movie was also great although there were minor things that somehow made me say that it could have been better if they just spent money for it to be much better.

The part where William is supposed to shoot a movie, in the book it was Europe, but in the movie it was just Mexico. I think if they stick to the original place where it all began, it’ll give emphasis maybe on how things went wrong, I don’t know or maybe it’s just me, relied too much that the story from the book will be really shown on it’s movie version.

And the last part, was also changed from the book to the movie. The last part in the movie was a bit disappointing for me, it was too dreamy without knowing what’s really the score or what really happened. It’s like saying “so that’s it huh?”.

If you have seen the movie, I guarantee you that you’ll enjoy the book much better.

I give the movie 4 stars since they didn’t really give much of a budget to it. lol. And the book, a perfect 5 stars for the way the author give emphasis on how each character makes a reader getting hooked or relate to the whole drama.

So that’s it for now.

Happy Holidays Everyone.

It was Halloween.

We decided to meet up.

I was anxious, and too excited.

You said you’re going to wear a maroon top.

I said I’ll be waxing my hair all up.

We agreed on the time.

Seven.

The place.

In front of the bookstore.

I
was an hour earlier, I was too eager to meet you. Since I was too
early, I roamed around. Then the clock ticked to the agreed time of
meet up.

I was standing there. I was standing there for thirty
five minutes. While waiting for you, I kept on setting aside a funny
incident that happened inside a music store that I went in while
roaming around earlier. But, all I end up is chuckling and keeping a
suppressed laugh. The kid was too amazed with what he saw to me. He
even told his mom, what a cool hair I have.

I smiled.

I stared at my watch, it’s seven forty and you’re still not around.

I
couldn’t do anything because you didn’t have a mobile fone then. I
looked at the floor, thinking what could have happened. I kept myself
calm. Convincing myself that you were just rushing late.

As I
was staring at the people, walking passed me, I saw a petite woman,
wearing a maroon sleeveless top and a black fitted slacks walking
towards me.

As she approaches me, it seemed like the whole world stopped for five minutes.

It’s like the people around me didn’t exist except her.

She who has the sweetest smile, turned out to be you.

I
felt too nervous that I was not able to move for at least 2 seconds.
All I could think of was my stupid ugly hair that made me looked like a
japanese cartoon character that collects dragon balls with stars on it.
I shrugged off the embarrassing feeling.

Then you were there, in front of me.

I mumbled a few words, which to this day can’t remember exactly what I said.

You
said sorry that you were late. I nodded. I asked if you were hungry,
then we decided to go to the direction where a known fast food chain is
located. Then we saw the mascot/mannequin of a bee outside the said
known food chain, I peeked and saw that the line was too long. Then you
decided to  just have coffee.

You paid for the iced coffee and brownies which I didn’t even eat, maybe because I was too conscious to eat it in front of you.

As soon as we were in the corner, I took out my cap, then wore it to hide the stupid waxed up hair that I have.

I
didn’t notice that you were observing my shoes until you feel it with
your own, then asked me if it does really fits me. I smiled then said
yes.

You agreed to go home with me on that night.

I was cramming to get a new phone since my brother is eyeing for my mobile fone. I was cramming for it 2nd quarter of the year, but at least I was able to get it now. I was doubtful to get it at first though, since there were many bad reviews on its battery longetivity in gsmarena dot com, but when I got it, experienced, then held it, I knew, I didn’t make a wrong decision for buying a cheap phone with capabilities of holding a lot  of songs. Since I’m a music lover, this fone suits me pretty well.

The color made me real ecstatic, coz it’s orange, it’s unique, and it’s different with what other handsets colors nowadays. It’s real light in weight too. Other phones are too bulky and too heavy that you’d rather have in your bag or in your pouch than have it in your pocket.

Although, it doesn’t have java capability nor, blue tooth function, I’m still pretty satisfied with this fone. And If you’re the type that wants to store a lot of mp3 files and doesn’t really wanna spend much for a gadget, I suggest that you get this fone, and you’ll never regret it.

Sex Drive

Sex Drive

I  happened to see this movie while looking for Sex and Breakfast the other day. I tried watching it while waiting for Reality Bites to completely buffer. (I mostly watch movies online. Thanks to online streaming!).

The movie was hilarious, it’s like watching American Pie with a twist, it’s also like watching Girl Next Door due to its sexual content.

The story revolves around an 18 year old virgin, who goes on a road trip to meet and hook up with a girl he met online. The movie was actually based on the novel All the way by Andy Behrens. The movie was directed by Sean Anders.

By the way, the pop punk band Fall Out Boy made a cameo in the film due to Seth Green (one of the actor and executive producer of the film, whose currently close friends with the band.)

It revolves around, friendship, losing virginity, love and hospitality.

A must see movie. I give it 5 stars.

The movie was released October 17th 2008. I wonder why it wasn’t advertised here in the Philippines?

For more info, check out their website here.

Well, first off, enough of korean movies, lol. I haven’t watched a senseful movie since after the one that I reviewed here. So I’ll back up and review a not so old movie that I’ve seen early this year.

sex and breakfast

sex and breakfast

It’s an indie film starred  by no other than the child wonder Macaulay Culkin, Eliza Dushku (of bring it on, tru calling), Mexican Actor Kuno Becker (of Goal 1,2,3) and Alexis Dziena.  The story revolves around two couples, struggling to make a spark on their relationship. Then came up a decision were they’d enter an anonymous group sex experiment to freshen their relationship, but little did they know, one of them would make it even worse.

What made me impress here is how, Mac, made a standout performance, because you would really say that he made a big improvement on his acting, he matured alot.

There were too many talking/conversation in the movie that made senseful things, but didn’t really bore me since it made the story more focus on the plot which is: SEX, LOVE and COMMUNICATION.

I’ve much appreciated this one than Before Sunset really. So, you might want to check it out, because as the movie line goes… ‘There’s more to life than sex and breakfast.’

I give it 5 stars. Check out the film website here.

My brother is getting into watching korean movies lately. I was doing the usual in front of the pc surfing the internet thingy, and he went out. I received a text message from him saying that I needed to watch a korean movie before going to sleep. He also mention that since I was fond of watching My Sassy Girl, i would definitely also loved the korean movie he wanted me to see, he also quoted, I’d definitely burst into tears while watching it.

I checked the movie into a well known site where you could watch asian movies, then I searched for it. To keep you from excitement, here is the poster of the movie.

A Millionaire's First Love

A Millionaire's First Love

The story revolves between a spoiled young man who does what we wants to do with his money, and a young quiet looking odd girl who appeared in front of him after his 18tth birthday celebration. The two are actually childhood friends, boy left a promise to comeback for the girl. After knowing what he was bound to do, only to realize they only have a few days left to cherish.

The story is well, dramatic, with a twist of comedy.

Although, I didn’t cry, there were words use in the movie, that made me think that those are somewhat true. It’s just that the storyline itself made me think that I have already seen it before.

It’s still worth watching though, you won’t actually say that you have wasted 2 hours of your time watching the movie.

I give it 4 stars.
